What is the Farmington Soccer Club Travel Soccer Program?
Farmington Soccer Club Travel Soccer Program: Travel soccer is a higher level of play than recreation soccer for which there are competitive tryouts. Tryouts for the fall season are held in May & June and will be announced on our web site under the TRAVEL SOCCER tab.
Players are selected on an evaluation basis and assigned teams of similar ability. When selected to join a travel team, players make a commitment to participate in both the fall and spring seasons. We feel the combination of training and games provide the players with the best possible foundation of skills and knowledge of the game. The FSC program is a great introduction to competitive soccer--Farmington has a long history of producing many talented teams and players!
Commitment: Practices are generally twice per week with 1-2 games on Saturdays and Sundays against other travel teams in neighboring towns within the Central and Northern District areas ranging from a few minutes away to as much as 45 minute away. Saturday matches are typically "friendly" games set up by the coaches or managers, Sunday matches are "league" games and can be more competitive. Accepting a position on the travel team means you will give your team priority over other sports being played in the same season.
Approach: Ephasis is placed on a higher level of technical development and competitive game tactics. Teams are placed in flights based on the prior year’s records by the Central District scheduling committee or by the coach’s estimate of a team’s strength for new U9 age groups. The Farmington Soccer Club is a member of the CJSA (Connecticut Junior Soccer Association) and abides by all rules set up by the CJSA.
FSC teams may elect to compete in a state-wide Connecticut Cup Tournament which is a single elimination tournament of travel programs from all over the state starting in the U11 age group. Farmington has a rich tradition of winning many CT Cup competitions in a variety of age groups and we hope to be in contention every season.
Cost: The cost for participating on a FSC travel team is $150.00 for the year which includes a uniform, CJSA registration fees, League Fees and insurance. In addition to this fee, each player is required to register with the Farmington Recreation Department for the fall and spring seasons and pay the appropriate recreation fee to the town. Teams may incur additional expenses if they choose to participate in additional tournaments or if they elect to play indoor soccer during the winter seasons. These expenses are optional and kids are not required to play.
Mission: Our objectives are to help players develop a love of the game; teach skills that help players enjoy the game; train players to use proper technique; and provide organized practices using well-planned and time-tested teaching techniques. Our emphasis is on developing the complete player in all four phases of the game including: technical, tactical, physical and psychological areas.
The Farmington Soccer Club provides a safe enjoyable training and learning environment for each player. The training is based around the technical fundamentals of soccer with the curriculum consisting of age appropriate activities as recommended by US Youth Soccer Association and CJSA programs.
KEY GOALS
• Provide players with a strong foundation for the longevity of their playing career
• Introduce soccer to youth and parents in the community by providing a safe, fun and professional training environment where players can enjoy and develop their soccer skills and techniques without fear of failure or pressure from over enthusiastic adults
• Provide an educational environment for players and parents concerning club values
The Rules of play are generally FIFA standards with some modifications. For "Rules for Travel Level Play" see www.cjsa.org and look for the current year handbook.
